After consulting Trip advisor for the best place to eat out in town (best Italian Cuisine it says on its business cards), we found the Olio Restaurant had opened up at 37 New London Road, Chelmsford, CM2 0ND. www.olio-italian-chelmsford.co.uk. We were lucky to get a table as the rest had all been booked out, but the waiter was very polite and friendly and showed us to a table near the window, though the best one was saved for someone who had booked. The waiter gave us some olives to nibble on while we decided what to order. For starters husband had scallops and I had baked stuffed mushrooms with asparagus and herbs, which was sizzling hot when it was bought to the table and tasted delicious. Then I had halibut on a bed of spinach and mashed potatoes...I couldn't finish it all because I was stuffed after eating 3 quarters of the dish, but it was very tasty and husband had a napoli pizza with a size dish of garlic mushrooms, then we ordered a tiramisu to share between two of us and a expresso coffee. Husband paid bill with credit card and we left quite a long time after we had arrived. It cost us about £61 over all including a Belgium beer, port and 2 glasses of cranberry juice.
